A Twitter conversation this afternoon got me thinking. How do you attract people to your blog? Is it simply a case of writing interesting, occasionally funny, sometimes emotional posts or is it altogether more complex?
Since spending more time in Twitterland, I’ve eavesdropped on conversations about Technorati and countless other ways of recording, reviewing, analysing and agonising over blog stats. Makes no odds to me- I’m never going to have the time or inclination to get that bogged down in it, and yet…. I can’t help but have a swiz at the comings and goings – I just love a good graph.
I’m guessing tags and categories all count and I’m more than a little random in how I apply them. So maybe, in the meantime, I’ll take @himupnorth ‘s advice and simply tag everything ‘Justin Bieber’ and before you think that’s cheating, I’ll expand… I don’t really heart Justin Bieber: he’s 15 years old… Robert Pattinson is one thing but that’s just a step too far…
I’m so glad you added the disclaimer in the last paragraph because my suggestion was going to be “Do NOT use ‘I Heart Justin Bieber’ as a blog title” to encourage proper readers and not your average 15 year old teeny-bopper with all their text speak like this:
I tink yor blog iz gr8 i luv jusin bieber & im goin 2 mari him & hav Hs babies & U wiL b jealous & h8 me
So, just be glad I was looking out for you Ms Paranoia 2010 😉
ROFLMFAO! It’s purely an experiment…honest guv! So (yn) I don’t get loads of aggressive comments from the teens.
Did make me wonder though…is this all about driving traffic? In which case I could just write a load of garbage all day, spout spurious opinions and generally hashtag the arse out of it….hmmm?
Thanks for watching my back, now go promote your latest post – I have to RT it, it’s fab!

uumm, I never heard of Justin Bieber, does that give my age away? I will go and google now so that I won’t be stoopid again!! As for stats, I have a fab twirly flashy world counter thing on my blog, very addictive, but thats about as far as I have time to take ‘stats’. Picked this up on twitter, so going back there now:) Jen.
Ha! Not at all Jen, I hadn’t either – that’s what made me laugh, how a whole generation is forming it’s cultural references and we are completely ignorant to them.
D’you know – does your stats think pick up when you are in people’s blogrolls or Google Reader accounts – I never know if that means I’m officially subscribing or not…
Thanks for visiting, see you on the twit-side.

There’s a blog post all about “Hits” and “counters” (nowt to do with the Mafia) here http://www.whosthemummy.co.uk/2010/01/postrank-for-the-rest-of-us-.html
I’ve submitted my URL to Sally for next months count – I’ll see how it goes and see if it works.
Thanks Nickie, I’ll take a look at it…
